Encampment School girls relay team breaks their own school record

Boys and girls team each take home second place at memorial meet

Both the Encampment boys and girls track team went home with second place medals from the Burt Willford Memorial Meet Saturday.

The boys scored 115 points, while the girls picked up 83 points.

As usual, McKenzie Powell led her team with three first place finishes in individual events – the 400-meter dash, the long jump and the triple jump.

Ashlynn Johnson added to the score with her first-place finish in the 1600-meter run and the high jump.

Cassidy Little picked up a second-place finish in the 800-meter run and the team of Powell, Micaiah Pantle, Little and Johnson finished second place and bettered their school record with a time of 11 minutes 4.93 seconds.

For the boys team, Hunter Hammer picked up a firstplace medal in the long jump and the 300-meter hurdles.

Hammer placed second in the triple jump, an event he recently started training in.

Tylr Kozelisky had two second place finishes in the 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles.

Brett Ralston had a second place finish in the 800-meter run and Guy Erickson took second in the 400-meter dash.

"The kids did an excellent job," Encampment High School Tigers Head Coach Kegan Willord said.

As a whole, the team has put in a lot of time, Willford added. It is showing in their results.

"I think Hunter has really found his niche with the jumping events," Willford said.

The athletes are beginning to peak at the right time as they have one more meet in Lander before regionals.

Willford is hoping the weather will hold, as rain is predicted.

Saturday started out warm and sunny for the meet in Saratoga, but after lunch, the weather changed to cold and windy. Despite the changes, the teams competed in the running events.

Saturday, the Encampment team travels to Lander to compete in the Shane Brock Invite beginning at 9 a.m.
