We're better than that

Dear Editor,

We attended the public meeting on Tuesday regarding proposed road closures by the Forest Service. I would like to compliment the Forest Service and Melanie Fullman, District Ranger, on their professional conduct.

Public employees are often accused of mismanagement of funds and also of having too many employees. This was brought up several times by some of the attendees. I am not sure where they obtain this information or was it just an assumption. I do know that budgets are being cut to many agencies both at the state and national level. Our infrastructure revenues are declining nationwide and tough choices are being made. As an citizen, it saddens me that our political system is unable to rise to the challenges and set some priorities that benefit all of us, just not a few.

In closing, I feel that Melanie is a very competent and knowledgeable District Ranger. We are fortunate to have her in our community. She is a member of the Saratoga Fire Department, Search and Rescue and also volunteers as a ski patrol in several surrounding ski areas. She is dealing with the hand that she was dealt, and needs our support in a positive way. I resent some of the mean spirited comments that were made during the meeting. She is not deserving of such treatment.

Sincerely,

Carol Beach

Saratoga
