Karen L. Thompson Anderson

Funeral services for Karen L. Anderson, of Henderson, Nev., will be held on May 1, 8:40 a.m. at the Boulder City Veterans Cemetery. Karen passed away on April 22, 2015, following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Afton, Wyo., on Aug. 22, 1948 to Doyle and Aloha Thompson.

She married Butch Garetson in 1965 in Saratoga and a son, Steven, was born. They later divorced and Karen and her son moved to Reno in 1969, working as a waitress. In 1970 she married Andy Anderson and a daughter, Tammy was born. In 1971 she began working in Keno at Mapes Casino and then as Keno Manager at Hilton Reno. They moved to Las Vegas in 1987 where Karen was Keno Manger at the Aladin, Dunes, and Gold Nugget before transferring to Treasurer Island where she worked 22 years as their Keno Manager before retiring in 2010.

Karen was very gifted in mathematics, and a very generous and beautiful woman. She enjoyed collecting Fenton glass, especially baskets, and had extensive collections of Swarovski Crystal, and various miniature glass, pewter, and clocks.

Karen is survived by her two children, Tammy Anderson-Munoz (Francisco), of Spring Valley, Calif., and Steven Garetson, of Henderson; a stepson Allen Anderson (Lori) of Minden, NV; a sister Marilyn Verplancke (Sam) and brother Dick Thompson, of Saratoga, and brother Douglas Bennett (Betsy), of Keno, Ore.; five grandchildren: Caleb, Courtney, and Lindsey Puckett of Spring Valley, Calif., AJ Anderson and Jennifer Duckett (Tommy), of Reno; and two great grandchildren: Timber and Braden Duckett, of Reno.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
