Speech team prepares for state

The Carbon County School District No. 2 (CCSD#2)Speech team is preparing for state competition this week and their biggest contender may be Thermopolis, a 2A school.

For the second week in a row, Thermopolis has won first place in Sweepstakes over CCSD#2, leaving the latter with the second place trophy.

The Congressional Debate team made progress this week with David Freeman placing fifth and Gabby Clutter finishing sixth.

Lydia Smith advanced to semi-finals with her original oratory and Jacob Dickinson also advanced in impromptu speaking.

Nina Ford won three of her four Lincoln-Douglas debates and has accumulated the most speaker points of all contenders.

Thursday, the team travels to compete in the Wyoming State Speech tournament in Buffalo, Wyo.

Unlike other activities, the speech team’s season does not end at state. The following weekend the team competes at the Wyoming Wind River District meet at Central Wyoming College in Riverton.
