2015 Wyoming Short Film Contest Seeking Entries

The Wyoming Film Office is seeking submissions for the Wyoming Short Film Contest. Film makers can submit their videos online at http://www.wyomingshortfilmcontest.com by April 2, 2015. A $25,000 grand prize will be awarded to the winning entry with a storyline that takes place in Wyoming, features Wyoming or presents the state as a major character.

Film Office Representative Colin Stricklin explains the contest’s origins saying, “We wanted to give something back to the film-making community in Wyoming. A lot of our energy is spent attracting out-of-state production to Wyoming, but the indies are the backbone of our industry. This contest was designed to encourage and support those people, and for one lucky Grand Prize winner each year, to help jump-start a career.”

Last year’s Short Film Contest winner, Charlie Craighead, advises 2015 contest entrants to use this opportunity to “look at an issue or story that is Wyoming”. Craighead also encourages participants to focus on telling the human story first: “It has to be something [people] can relate to on a personal level,” Craighead said.

The contest begins with a public vote/juror round, narrowing the field down to 10 finalists. From there, a judging panel made up of film production, visual arts and industry representatives selects the ultimate winner based on criteria including cinematography, screenplay, acting, sound design, editing and overall production value.

The Grand Prize Winner will be announced May 1, 2015. For more information visit http://www.filmwyoming.com.
