Volunteer Mike Glode waits for everyone to place their bets at Casino Night in Encampment Saturday night. The event, part of the Sierra Madre Winter Carnival, was sponsored by the Encampment/Riverside Fire Department and the Xi Beta Delta Sorority in Encampment.
The weather was perfect for the Sierra Winter Carnival Friday and Saturday – a balmy 34 degrees most of Saturday.
The only problem – no snow. Traditionally, if there is no snow in Encampment, the town gets snow from the Sierra Madres – but that didn't happen this year and the popular sled races on 8th and Rankin were cancelled.
The cancellation did not deter one family who came from Longmont, Colo. they found snow and took their children sledding before heading to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Chili Feed.
