Lady Tigers snakebit after taming Wildcats

The Encampment Lady Tigers (6-4) started their weekend with a win against the Walden, Colo. Lady Wildcats (4-2). The Lady Tigers took Walden 51-25 in a game where Encampment held a 23-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Coach Amy Clay said the team shot 69 percent from the field in the first quarter and played strong defense.

"We've been working on our press and it helped us get some early turnovers," Clay said.

Team standouts during the game against Walden include junior Cassidy Little (16 points, 4/7 from three point range, 4 assists and 3 steals), freshman Micaiah Pantle (10 points, 5 rebounds) and junior Alyssa Barkhurst (6 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 steals).

Coach Clay said she is proud of her team. "We came out sharp and took it to them. It gets rough and physical when we cross the border, but the girls held their composure and played well."

The Saturday game against the Little Snake River Lady Rattlers (7-11) did not go as well.

The Lady Tigers fell to the Baggs team in a 23-46 bout.

The first half of the game against Baggs was fairly even, but Little Snake River held the Lady Tigers to a scoreless third quarter. Clay said that really hurt the Encampment team and they were outscored 23-5 in the second half.

Clay attributed the failed second half to poor passing and missed shot attempts. She said it was frustrating and, "26 percent shooting from the field and 27 percent from the line will not win, ever."

Clay said she has a good group of girls and they will focus on free throws and offensive execution during this week's practices.

The Lady Tigers play away games at Cokeville at 4 p.m. on Friday and Farson-Eden at noon, Saturday.
