Game and Fish to hold Instructor Academy

Wyoming residents who have completed hunter education instructor certification in the last three years are invited to attend the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s annual Hunter Education Instructor Academy to be held June 26-28 at the Whiskey Mountain Conservation Camp near Dubois.

Game and Fish Commission regulation requires hunter education instructors to attend a new instructor workshop within two years of becoming certified as an instructor. There is no fee for the orientation training. Meals and lodging at Whiskey Mountain are provided in part through a grant from the Central Wyoming Chapter of Safari Club International.

The 2015 Academy marks the eighth year of the event following passage of a Wyoming Game and Fish Commission regulation requiring new hunter education instructors to attend a new instructor workshop within two years of becoming certified as hunter education instructors. Game and Fish hunter education coordinator Jim Dawson said the instruction will involve sessions on the six major core areas in the hunter education curriculum including:

• Hunter responsibility and ethics

• Wildlife conservation and management

• Firearms and firearms safety

• Game and Fish statutes and regulations

• Wildlife identification and field care

• Outdoor safety and survival

Numbers of camp participants are limited and slots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Dawson said the camp is designed to increase correctness of material being taught, and improve communication in teaching the hunter education program.
