Golfers bring home first team trophy

The Saratoga Panthers Golf Team took home a third place trophy at the 2A State Tournament in Worland last week. This is the first golf team trophy in the history of Saratoga High School.

The team shot 384, 415–799 in two days of play. "We were all just so happy to take home a third place trophy for the school," Coach Matt Daubner said. "It's recognition of hard work and we came home with something for the school."

Daubner credits Braxton Schwartzkopf with being the driving force behind the team, "he was a great team captain all season."

Braxton Shwartzkopf shot a 75, 78–153 and tied for second place with Dallas Millin from Wright.

Guy Erickson tied for 10th place with a 95,95–190, Chaze Wiant came in 19th with a 99,112–211, Jaxon King's 115,130–245 earned him 31st and Wyatt Carricato came in 36th with a 136,134–270.

Denton Shaw from Lusk is the repeat 2A State Champion. He shot a 147 for the tournament giving him a six stroke lead over Schwartzkopf and Millin. Thermopolis took home the boys team trophy with a tournament total of 715.

Looking forward to the spring season, Daubner has high hopes. He will have a full team again and it will be the last season for seniors Schwartzkopf and Wiant. "Next year Guy Erickson will be the leader, hopefully we will retain the young ones," Daubner said looking even farther into the future.

"All around it was a good fall season," Daubner said summing up the team's play.
