VSO planning general election forum

The Valley Service Organization (VSO) has scheduled an election forum Oct. 29 for state and local candidates in contested races.

New VSO President Kate Sherrod led the meeting Sept. 21.

The contested local races include Mayor of Saratoga, Saratoga Town Council, State Senate and Carbon County Sheriff. In addition to inviting the candidates for these offices to appear, the group also decided to invite the two gubernatorial candidates.

The general election forum will be held Oct. 29 at the Platte Valley Community Center and will follow the same general format as the primary election forums.

VSO members also discussed a possible family dance party plus upcoming fall and winter projects including highway cleanup, Winter Wonderland and the Giving Tree.

In addition to Sherrod, officers recently elected to lead the group are Carol Beach, vice president; Carol Sherrod, secretary, and Julie Evans, treasurer.

The next VSO meeting is Thursday, Oct. 9, at noon at the Hotel Wolf. Anyone interested in learning more or joining VSO is welcome to attend. Following the meeting, the members will perform their annual fall highway cleanup, weather permitting.
