Council approves liquor license

At the Town of Encampment council meeting Thursday night, the big news was the approval of a retail liquor license for D’s Bar and Grill. The license was approved and the town should have a new eatery and drinking establishment soon.

Gary White expressed concern over the need for himself and others that have to use treated water to maintain their lawns, trees and gardens. His property sits too high to utilize the Encampment ditch, but he doesn’t want to see the ditch shut down because people are complaining untreated water is flowing through their property. Mayor Greg Salisbury stated that the town has a plan to redirect water and maintain use of the ditch that should satisfy all parties.

Linda Sander asked for the town to draft a letter releasing liability for the trust set up to clean up her property after a structure fire. The council refused to sign a release of liability until the removal of debris is completed.

Participation in a new fire protection district was discussed.

There are potential benefits the town would have access to training, new equipment and additional personnel, but there may also be additional costs.

The town will have to wait and see what proposed mill levy taxes look like and what support there is for the idea.

The next town council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Aug. 14, at the Encampment Town Hall.
