Junior golf starting up

The Saratoga Lions Club, in cooperation with the Saratoga Resort and Spa golf instructor, Matt Daubner, are conducting a summer golf program for children 5 to 17 years of age.

The Jim Hull Junior Golf Program consists of six lessons and a tournament. The June lesson dates for the driving range and putting green, with start times and age groups, are as follows:

June 9 (at the range) and June 16 (at the green) for 12-17 years old, at 8:30 a.m.; June 10 (range) and 17 (green) for 5-7 years old, 9:15 a.m.; June 11 (range) and 18 (green) for 8-9 years old, 10 a.m.; and June 11 (range) and 18 (green) for 10-11 years old, 10:45 a.m.

The lessons will be on the driving range in front of the Saratoga Resort and Spa the first week, June 9-11, and you can drop off and pick up your children at the driving range. For the second week, June 16-18, drop children off and pick them up at the putting green.

The tournament is June 23-24. Please have 10- through 17-year-old golfers at the Pro Shop at 8 a.m. on each day of the tournament, and 5- through 9-year-olds there at 9 a.m on each day. The Awards Lunch is June 24 at noon, and the location is to be announced.

Clubs, golf balls and tees will be furnished, and if children bring their own clubs, have them marked with the name. Children must participate in three lessons to compete for awards in the tournament, and make sure children are dressed adequately and know how they are getting home.

Registration is $15 per child, payable to the Saratoga Lions Club. Your check must accompany the completed registration form, and please turn the registration form and payment at the Saratoga Resort and Spa Golf Shop prior to June 8.

Parents are encouraged to drop off and pick up their children on time and to assists with the lessons and score for the golfers during the tournament. Registration forms are available at the schools and the Saratoga Resort and Spa Golf Course.
