FBLA students earn honors at State Conference

Sixteen Saratoga High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) members earned top-four placements and other honors at their annual State Leadership Conference in Cheyenne.

An FBLA attendance record was set when over 700 members from 36 schools across Wyoming met at the Holiday Inn in Cheyenne Thursday through Saturday. Students were there to build leadership skills through workshops, campaign for a state office and compete in a variety of business-related topics with hopes of qualifying for a chance to compete this June in Nashville at the National Leadership Conference.

Saratoga team members represented several competitive events. Local students made it to finals, and several placed in the top four to qualify for nationals.

"Overall, it was a great State Leadership Conference for Saratoga FBLA members, as unforgettable experiences were had, trophies were won, friendships were made and opportunities were created for several to compete this summer in Nashville," said FBLA coach Jared Mason. "I say 'best of luck, and to continue to represent Saratoga with pride and confidence.'"

Saturday's awards were presented in alphabetical order by event name, and the first to be recognized for Saratoga were Tate Stinson and Shelby McGuire in Computer Applications. After being called up on stage, Stinson was awarded the second place trophy, and McGuire was recognized for her fourth place finish.

Aaron Kerbs was the next National Qualifier, placing third in FBLA Principles and Procedures. The Parliamentary Procedures team of Cameron Collamer, Hunter Mason, Andrew Janecek-Oiler, Kerbs and Sarah Burton placed third to advance to nationals. The last individual trophies were won by Mason, who placed second in Spreadsheet Applications, followed by McGuire with her third-place finish in Word Processing.

For Friday's performance events, Alicia Zaragoza and Katie Loose advanced to Finals in Business Presentation; Janecek-Oiler was selected to the Job Interview Final; and the Emerging Business Issues Team of Collamer, Stinson and Mason competed in Finals. Others in Finals were Jessie Black, Maddison Sharp and Haley Soles in Digital Design and Promotion; Justine Fourman, Kelsie Samson and Veronica Lincoln in Public Service Announcement; and Alicia Zaragoza in Public Speaking.
