I understand that there are 3 finalists vying for the Carbon County 2 school district (CC2) superintendent position. I would like to suggest four questions for these individuals. Their answers will shed light on important beliefs and convictions they hold concerning the education of our children. Questions are as follows:
1. I would like each candidate to respond to the following quote from the website of Wyoming Citizens Opposing Common Core: “ Student learning is complex and impacted by many factors which include, but are not limited to, prior learning, family background, level of poverty, classroom and school culture, access to private tutors, learning disabilities, access to adequate resources, and even school district governance.” None of the aforementioned factors are taken into account by Common Core standards, the testing program, or teacher evaluations. What is your position on this issue?
2. What is your position on the invasive Data Mining tied to the testing, that will impact student’s futures and families of those students, neither of whom will control or be able to access that personal information?
3. Would you be in favor of continuing the existence of, or enhancing, the program of Constitutional awareness that was delivered to the students of Encampment school? This program was given the blessing to move ahead by the state schools superintendent, Cindy Hill, and was coordinated between Jeff Hymas, Wyoming coordinator for JBS, and the school principal of Encampment.
4. I believe it was Carbon County Higher Education (CCHE) and Carbon County School District 1 (CC1) who successfully implemented a house building program with the students of Rawlins High School. Would you support this type of alternative education program, and what other alternative programs would you work to implement in our educational system? Thank you for your time
