VSO seeking Youth Citizen applicants

The Valley Service Organization (VSO) is now accepting applications from graduating high school seniors for its 2014 Youth Citizenship Award worth $500.00.

Carol Beach, VSO co-chairman for the award program with Melanie Fullman, said applications are now available from the counselors’ offices at the all Carbon County School District No. 2 high schools. All graduating seniors in the district are eligible to apply, including those who are home schooled, she said.

Deadline for returning applications is April 15. Applicants must be residents of CCSD#2 and will be asked on the application to write paragraphs outlining school activities (sports, student government, clubs, etc.,) community service and plans for the future. Community service includes membership in such organizations as Scouting and 4-H, church activities, community volunteering and the like. Applicants will also have to supply one letter of recommendation.

The award is not a scholarship, Beach emphasized, and there are no restrictions on how the money may be used. The award honors students for outstanding awareness of the meaning and importance of good citizenship and volunteering.

Completed applications should be mailed to Valley Service Organization, ATTN: Carol Beach, P.O. Box 1169, Saratoga, WY 82331, by the April 15 deadline. If unable to contact one of the high school counselors, home-schooled graduating seniors may obtain the application form by emailing Beach, [email protected].
