Speech and debate team head to state

Carbon County School District No. 2 Speech and Debate Team members will show their gift of gab at the 2014 Wyoming High School State Speech and Debate Tournament.

Taking place at Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs Thursday through Saturday, teams from all over the state will converge to showcase their skills and practice. Saratoga’s individuals will enter events ranging from oratory, drama, humor, duet, Lincoln-Douglas debate and Congress.

“Teams from all over the state will converge for three days to showcase their skills and practice,” said the team’s speech coach and teacher Brenda Ostendorf. “Countless hours have gone into the preparation of these events, and the dedication of the team members is to complimented.”

At the recent Cheyenne South High School Meet Feb. 28-March 1, the team returned with the 1A/2A trophy. In particular, Kaylyn Wessel placed sixth in poetry, second in drama, and with her partner, Rebecca Treat, third in duet.

The CCSD#2 team plans to host a Speech Night for the Encampment/Saratoga/Hanna Community in April. The team will host a performance for the local Kiwanis organization that same month.

Additionally, Saratoga and CCSD#2 has been selected for a second time to host the 2014 Wyoming State Coaches Conference in the fall.
