Middle school ballers close season with tourney

The Saratoga and Encampment middle school girls’ basketball teams wrapped up their respective seasons at last weekend’s 2014 Junior High Tournament in Baggs.

The Saratoga A Team received third place in the Saturday tournament, with wins over Encampment B (41-6) and Wamsutter (51-23), and a loss against Encampment A (33-38). Encampment A reached second with their win over Saratoga A (38-33), and a loss against Little Snake River (14-41).

For the other four placements, Little Snake River took first place, Wamsutter placed fourth, Hanna scored fifth and Encampment B made sixth.

“There were good games to watch, and the teams played hard,” said Saratoga head coach Scott Bokelman. “The kids played hard and improved over the season, and we did as well as we could expect. Quite a few kids on the A Team were back, and our eighth graders were good ball players. Some of our girls were still a little undersized, but we’ll grow.”

Bokelman said he admired the drive of his girls against tough teams during the 2014 season.

“I liked the heart and determination they had this year, and they were a fun group to watch,” he said. “Encampment had a tough team, and Wamsutter was better than they have been in the past. They probably had the best team they’ve had since I’ve been around.”
