Tigers devour Pronghorns

Instead of letting Friday's conference loss to Cokeville slow them down, the Encampment Tigers pulled ahead to a huge 71-46 win over Farson-Eden in their second conference game of 2013-14.

The Tigers seemed to own the fast-paced Saturday game from the get-go, and stayed ahead by six or more points at the end of the first and second quarters. Once Encampment led 49-35 at the end of the third, it seemed unlikely that Farson-Eden would catch up or take over.

The fourth quarter is when the Tiger started to pile on the points. The Pronghorns could not keep up scoring-wise. Encampment managed 22 points in that quarter, while the Pronghorns could only pull in 11, and the game ended with an impressive 25-point Tiger lead.

Coach Clint Bromley said it felt great to score up to 71 points and win by 25, especially after Friday's 33-54 conference loss to Cokeville. The Tigers now sit at 8-2 (non-conference) and 1-1 (conference).

"It's a good feeling to come back, and get your team to get in the scoring column and do the things you want to do," Bromley said. "Whether it's by 25 points or one point, the guy takes the win either way, but it's kind of nice to see they can come out and put some points on the board. We've got to come out and do that every night. That's the goal by the end of the season, to be consistent."

Top earners were Luke Pantle (21 points) and Guy Erickson (18 points), followed by Harold Jackson (12), Jared Stewart (eight), Matt Jarrett (six), Brett Miller (four) and David Flauding (two). Jackson said he noticed the power turn on once he and his teammates moved into the second half.

"The second half is usually 'our half'," he said. "We hustled really good, and we just pushed the ball really fast," "That's what I think really won us, but they are a scrappy team and a pretty good team when it comes down to it."

Bromley said he was pleased to have seven of his Tigers earn points for the team. He also appreciated watching the supporting players help Pantle and Erickson, the usual leading scorers for Encampment.

"That's the one thing we're after is getting all the supporting guys to step up and help those two other scorers out," Bromley said. "They stepped up a little better today, and you get a good outcome because of it. That's what our goal is, to get those supporting players playing a little better."

The junior varsity Tigers also won 53-35 over Farson-Eden Saturday, but lost 38-45 against Cokeville.

Encampment's Tigers next play a third conference matchup at Hanna, starting at 4 p.m. on Friday. Results from Tuesday's game at Walden, Colo. were unavailable at press time.
