Saratoga's Thatcher Spiering struggles to pin his opponent during the Don Runner Memorial held last weekend in Pavilion. Spiering earned second place and finished with a 4-1 record.

Saratoga High School's wrestling team finished sixth out of 20 teams at the Don Runner Memorial in Pavilion last weekend.

Coach Jared Mason said it was an exciting weekend of competition at Wind River High School, as his boys squared off with most of the 2A teams from the West region.

"The Friday and Saturday tournament hosted 20 teams, including a few 3A schools and Rich County, Utah," he said. "As a team, Saratoga finished sixth, which I felt was pretty good considering we only had six wrestlers scoring team points. Individually, we placed seven of our eight wrestlers that competed."

For individual Panthers stats, Hunter Mason and Thatcher Spiering both placed second, Jacob Wells and Daynon Mowry both earned third, Kyle Bartlett finished in fourth, Tate Stinson was fifth and Bradley Bifano placed sixth.

"Daynon Mowry is our wrestler of the week for his outstanding efforts," Mason said. "He really stepped up a notch, was focused, prepared and wrestled very well as he pinned Keenan Pfisterer of Wind River in his third place match. Keenan Pfisterer was an opponent who has been ranked third in the state all season."

The Panthers next compete in the Dogger Invite at Lingle this Friday and Saturday. Following is a Quadrangular meet at Hanna-Elk Mountain-Medicine Bow High School, which begins at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 30.
