Lady Tigers skewered by Longhorns

After a massive 56-28 win over Saratoga earlier this month, Encampment’s Lady Tigers fell with a 26-36 loss against Rock River’s Lady Longhorns last Friday.

The defeat from Rock River brought Encampment to a varsity non-conference record of 3-2. During the game, Cassidy Little scored 10 points and snagged 10 rebounds, Alyssa Barkhurst scored eight points, Konnar Knotwell had six points on the board and Jenny Morgan sank two points.

Coach Amy Clay said the girls could have done better with shooting, rebounding and boxing out.

“We shot the ball poorly and could never recover, with 24 percent,” she said. “We have to work on getting comfortable in uncomfortable situations, and we struggled getting the ball inside and were timid with the ball out front. Our boxing out and rebounding needs attention as well. I know this group will come in over the break and work hard to get better every day.”

Encampment also lost their junior varsity match against Rawlins Tuesday, with a close 36-39. Once again, Little was the top earner in points, with 13 total, followed by Knotwell and Sierra Loftice with eight points each, Barkhurst with four points and Miller and Emily Morgan with one point each.

Knotwell and Jenny Morgan also brought in seven rebounds each. Clay said she would have liked to see better passing and offensive play during the JV game.

“We struggled with the pressure they put on our guards and had 25 turnovers, which is unacceptable,” Clay said. “We have to make better passes and value the basketball when we have it in our possession. We have a couple of weeks to work on that. I appreciate our effort and hustle.”

Encampment’s boys’ basketball team, won their game against Rock River’s Longhorns 54-46, but lost their junior varsity game against Rawlins 51-63. The boys now have a non-conference record of 4-1.

Both the Encampment boys’ and girls’ teams next play a home game against the Laramie Sophomores, which begins at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7.

Following the game against the Laramie Sophomores is an away matchup against Dubois on Friday, Jan. 10. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams for Encampment will play against the Rams.

Because of the winter break, results of the Encampment boys’ basketball game were not available at press time.
