Lots of good cheer at Deseret for holidays

At Deseret Health and Rehab, residents enjoyed many activities throughout the week. The Activity Department offers a wide variety of activities each week to meet the residents’ interests, as well as the physical, mental and psychological well-being of each resident.

We had our annual resident Christmas party on Thursday. Twenty-six family members and visitors attended. The Dietary Department put on a sumptuous spread. Everyone enjoyed the ham, roast beef, twice baked potatoes, the salads, and the desserts. The Dietary Department once more did a tremendous job with this feast. The ham was donated by Chuck Bartlett. Jeff Streeter played Santa and passed out gifts to every resident that the Kiwanis had purchased and wrapped for the residents. Teense Willford entertained us by singing and playing Christmas songs on his guitar. A good time was had by all.

Throughout the week before, this week and the coming week, carolers from various organizations are coming to the facility singing Christmas carols—the Awana Kids, the high school kids, Jingle Bellas, first graders and the Platte Valley Christian Center.

Each night during the week, residents watched Turner Classic Movies in the evening. On Tuesday afternoon, six residents watch the movie, “Home Alone”.

Games throughout the week provided fun and laughter. On Wednesday afternoon, seven residents played Bingo, and on Friday afternoon, eight residents played Bingo. Dora Martin, Frank Jereb, and Kenny Hoagland won Four Corners. Frank Jereb and Kenny Hoagland won Blackouts. Our Bingo helpers were Dawna Erickson, Lila Worden, and Gloria Rakness.

On Sunday afternoon, Doris Davis led our church service and played religious music on her keyboard.

On Monday afternoon, five residents went in the van to the Encampment Thrift Shop and picked out things for Christmas at no cost.

On Wednesday morning, Janice Kerpan gave beautiful hairdos to four ladies in Hair Care.

We wish to thank the Rebekahs for the donation of quarters for Bingo. Gloria Rakness made a very kind financial donation for a resident Christmas present. Suzie Cox donated the turkeys for the residents’ Christmas. We greatly appreciated the help of town employees in getting and returning the tables and chairs that we needed for the Resident Christmas Party.

Merry Christmas to everyone in the Valley from the residents and staff at Deseret Health and Rehab.
