Cost to run CCSD 2 is $40,385 a day

Carbon County School District No. 2 held their final meeting of 2013 on Monday.

Board members devoted a large part of their discussed financials of the 2013 calendar year. The district announced they have spent an average of $40,385 a day on district expenditures and have been able to keep these expenditures in check with their revenues without having to draw from reserve funds.

Approximately 35 percent of expenditures went to elementary education, nine percent went to the middle school, 23 percent went to the high school, and special education received 16 percent.

The district also announced they saved 33 percent from travel costs last year in athletics.

Board members also discussed accountability scores in which Saratoga Elementary students did well in statewide tests. The tests, which examine the rate in growth of learning, scored well above average-just missing the exceeding range.

Saratoga Middle/High School students scored exceeding marks regarding proficiency when taking the ACT.

The board considered several plans concerning the old Hanna School property. Though no decisions were made, the board talked about handing over the property to the town of Hanna. They said ideally they would like to put that land to "good use" including a park or a snow fence. However, they said that the funding for the potential projects is currently non-existent.

The board announced that the superintendent job for Carbon County School District No. 2 will be posted in January.

The next school board meeting will be at 4 p.m., Jan. 20, 2014 in Medicine Bow.
