Obit: Sammie Loyd Scheierman

Sammie Loyd Scheierman passed away at his home in Saratoga. He suffered with Lupus for several years and unfortunately lost his battle on Nov. 5, 2013.

Sam was born April 1, 1940 in Burlington, Colo., to Benjamin and Elva Rachel Scheierman.

Sam served in the US Navy (Oct. 1961 to Oct. 1967). After the completion of training in Turbine-or-Engine Operator (light, heat, power) and Underwater Demolition (Seals), he served aboard the USS Oriskany, USS Kitty Hawk and the USS Gunston Hall. Sam spent more than three years in Vietnam before he was honorably discharged in 1967.

After separation from the Navy, his love for horses took him to Tucson, Ariz., where he worked at the Old Adobe Ranch. He broke and trained horses, taught people of all ages how to ride, including handicapped children. One of his proudest moments was to receive (two years running) first place in the La Fiesta de los Vaqueros Parade. After receiving an invitation to train Lipizzan Horses, Sam accepted this opportunity and traveled to the eastern U.S. 

While living in Jay, Okla. (Delaware County) Sam entered Lynx Ballerina, of the King blood line, into the Western Pleasure Competition and received first place. While in Arizona and Texas he worked in sales then moved to Wyoming. He worked several years for underground coal mining at Energy Development in Hanna. While in Nevada he was a heavy equipment operator in uranium and gold mines near Tonopah and Beatty. He enjoyed many different things over the years including swimming, big game hunting, fishing, motorcycles, hunting arrow-heads, also his daily visits to friends at the Wolf Hotel in Saratoga.

Survived by; brothers; Robert Lee Roy (Cheryl) Scheierman of Fleming Island, Fla., Bennie Ray (Colleen) Scheierman of Sinclair, sister, Norma Jean Allen, of Saratoga, daughter, Rondee (Nick) Chevallier, of Raleigh, N.C. stepsons, Perry (DeDe) Davidson of Rock River, Wyo., and Michael & (Margie) Davidson of Colorado Springs, Colo., 4 grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren, 5 step great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by; parents Benjamin and Elva Scheierman, brother-in-law Conrad Allen, stepdaughter Sonya Peterson and stepgrandson Jake Davidson.
