Holiday bazaar promises more handcrafted items

The Xi Beta Epsilon Holiday Bazaar has changed over the last 22 years.

“Over the course of time, the focus of the vendors has changed,” said Lisa Burton, a member of the sorority and longtime organizer of the event. “The quality of the Bazaar has improved over the last 22 years.”

Between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, vendors from across Wyoming and parts of Colorado will pack the multi-purpose room at the Saratoga Middle/High School.

Burton said the number of vendors has increased throughout the years, and more handcrafted items will be available.

“There is always a variety of stuff with a lot of hand-crafted items,” she said.

Twenty-five cents gets you in the doors Saturday for shopping. Burton said Xi Beta Epsilon will provide babysitting. Soups and sandwiches are also provided at an additional cost.

Burton said a portion of the proceeds will go to help a local project.

“It is just a fun atmosphere,” Burton said. “It gives people a chance to get out, shop and have lunch.”

Sorority member Mary Hohnholt has sold her sewing wears at the Holiday Bazaar since 1994.

“Every year I try to have 10 to 15 different things,” she said.

Hohnholt said she usually has to narrow her ideas for items because she never has time to turn all of her ideas into creation, she said.

“I always say I have to live until 100 to get through all my ideas,” she said with a laugh.

This year, Hohnholt will bring cloth snowmen in small glass jars as ornaments.

“That’s something new that I think is kind of fun,” she said.

Hohnholt said she won’t be at the event this year, because it conflicts with her son’s sporting event, but her items will still be for sale.

Hohnholt said the best part about the event is getting a chance to talk with everyone.

“It is just nice to see everyone in the community,” she said. “You get to visit with people and it’s fun to see what the other people in the community have made.”
