Obituary: Richard A. Williams

Richard A. Williams, 85, of Encampment, left this earth Nov. 7, 2013 while living at his daughter’s home in Cheyenne.

He was born July 7, 1928 in Laramie to Evan John and Bessie Stewart Williams and spent his early years in several locations in the Medicine Bows where his father was a forest ranger.

He had a love for Wyoming and after traveling the world over while serving our country in the United States Air Force, he was living in the south where his wife was from.

Richard returned to Encampment in 2002. While living in Encampment the past 11 years, Richard was active in the Encampment Choir, VFW of Encampment and as a volunteer at the Encampment Museum, where he was able to share his many stories with visitors.

Richard is survived by two daughters, Cindi Williams (Dennis) Davis, who currently resides in Cheyenne; and Marie Williams, who lives in Encampment. He is also survived by a son, Keith (Cheryl) Williams, of Lithia Springs, Ga. He is also survived by two sisters, Eleanor Hutcheson, of Buena Vista, Colo., and Ruth Williams, of Seattle. Richard is also survived by his sister-in-law, Mary Jo Williams, of Lander. Richard also had two grandchildren, Rob and Rachel Essley, and four great-grandchildren, Genesee, Gracelyn, Avery, and Elliott. Richard also is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife Ruth; his parents; five sisters, Dorothy McBride, of Rawlins, Laura Lake, of Rawlins; Margaret Casto, of North Pole, Alaska; Elsie Bartlett, of Saratoga; Enid Lively, of Reno, Nev.; one brother Les Williams, of Lander; and several nieces and nephews.

Richard has been cremated and a celebration of his life will be held in the summer of 2014 when all his family and friends can gather at the Jack Creek Ranger Station. Further notice will be given as time gets closer.

Richard was a brilliant man who was stricken with an Alzheimer’s-type Dementia three years ago. It took his short-term memory, but his memories of Encampment in the 30s and 40s remained. Any donations can be made to either the Encampment VFW or the Alzheimer’s Association.
