CCSD 2 board members explore superintendent search options

The search for a new superintendent for Carbon County School District No. 2 will need plenty of feedback from the community, according to board members.

The CCSD 2 Board of Trustees spoke with Executive Director of the Wyoming School Board Association Mark Higdon in a teleconference Tuesday to explore the option of using the Association in a search for a new superintendent.

Higdon presented a tentative timeline of what a WSBA search for a superintendent would entail.

Board members Janice Price and Tonya Bartholomew both stressed the importance of more community involvement in the search.

“We are held accountable to our stakeholders to represent their ideas, and if we don’t do a good job in finding out what those needs are, then I think we are not representing them as well as we could,” Bartholomew said.

Bartholomew suggested administering a survey to get a better idea of what the community wants in a superintendent. Higdon said he administers a survey to board members to find the board’s needs, but does not survey the community in his search. Higdon said he only recommends there be an open forum later in the search process, where community members are given a chance to meet applicants or the superintendent position and ask questions.

Bartholomew volunteered to make a community survey, and give the results of that survey to Higdon. Chairman Greg Bartlett said one avenue to administer the survey would be to put it on the CCSD 2 website.
