Sun Editorial: Your response aids in theirs

October is Fire Prevention Month.

Saratoga residents are lucky enough to have 32 dedicated volunteer firefighters as first responders in the community.

The Saratoga Volunteer Fire Department responds to about 60 or 70 calls a year, and is the first-responding organization for Saratoga and surrounding communities.

In past months, the Saratoga Sun staff has shared stories of these individuals bravely fighting fires with quick response times. Regardless of the time of day or night, they volunteer their time to keep us safe.

These volunteers train and work tirelessly to make sure this community is safe, and deserve our support.

These individuals take time out of their schedule, and sometimes take time off of work, to respond to situations.

The Saratoga Volunteer Fire Department, a non-profit organization, receives some funds from the town of Saratoga and some from Carbon County. However, the department relies heavily on donations for equipment and training, tools necessary to firefighters so they can protect this community.

The fire department is sending, or will send, its biannual notice asking for donations.

Don’t ignore it.

Instead, take some time to send our fire department some money to show your appreciation to its volunteer service for the past 90 years.

Your donation will help firefighters attend fire schools in Wheatland, Cody and Riverton, insuring they are well trained when called upon.
