At Deseret Health and Rehab, residents enjoyed many activities throughout the week. The Activity Department offers a wide variety of activities each week to meet the residents’ interests, as well as the physical, mental and psychological well-being of each resident.

Mother Nature gave us some beautiful scenery on Friday morning, just to let us know the winter is just around the corner. The wet, heavy snow brought down a lot of tree limbs around town. However, residents were warm and snug in the facility inside, despite the snow and colder temperatures outside.

Games throughout the week provided fun and laughter. On Sunday afternoon, four residents played Uno with Dora Martin winning. On Wednesday afternoon, 10 residents played Bingo, and on Friday afternoon, nine residents played Bingo. Truth Karstoft, Frank Jereb, and Pat Sims won Four Corners. Dora Martin and Pat Sims won Blackouts. Our Bingo helpers were Betty Dean, Betty Eaton, Nancy Facciani, Sue Howe, and Lila Worden. On Saturday afternoon, residents played Blackjack.

Residents watched the commercial-free Turner Classic Movie channel evenings during the week. On Sunday morning, residents watched the VCR movie, “Rebecca”. On Tuesday afternoon, residents watched a VCR Movie. On Saturday morning, residents watched the VCR movie, “The African Queen”.

On Sunday afternoon, Ken Kreusal of the Encampment Presbyterian Church led church for residents. His wife, Becky, assisted on the keyboard with traditional religious music.

On Monday, Thursday, and Friday mornings, residents continued listening to Robin Cook’s “Acceptable Risk”. Janice Kerpan read for residents on Thursday.

On Monday afternoon, Pastor Smith led a memorial service for Jeannie James, a long-time resident at the facility.

On Tuesday morning, Pastor Smith of the Platte Valley Christian Center offered Bible Study to seven residents.

On Wednesday morning, Janice Kerpan gave beautiful hairdos to six ladies in Hair Care, and Brenda Zeiger did nails.

On Thursday afternoon, Brenda Zeiger helped six residents make spider necklaces.

Saturday afternoon, residents enjoyed ice cream sandwiches.

The Activity program relies on volunteers to enhance residents’ lives. If interested, please call 326-8212 and ask for the Activity Director, Tom Mansfield.
