Obituary: Merl S. Aydelott

Merl S. Aydelott, 97, of Encampment, died Wednesday, Sept.18, 2013 at Deseret Health and Rehab, in Saratoga.

Services were held Monday at the Grand Encampment Opera House with Phillip Myers officiating. Interment was a Mountain View Cemetery.

Merl was born June 10, 1916 in Duluth, Minn. on the Caribou Farm to Vergal and Mayme J. (Claussen) Aydelott. He moved to Encampment in 1927.

Merl married Frances Harris on Jan. 18, 1952 in Fort Collins, Colo.

His family had ranches in the Encampment area until they were sold in 1958.

Merl took pride in being part of the Volunteer Fire Department of Encampment for 28 years, where he was also the Fire Chief and the Assistant Fire Chief. He also volunteered at the Grand Encampment Museum. He enjoyed participating in the Copper Days Tractor Pull. Merl was a Charter Member of the Presbyterian Mariners.

Merl is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Jeannie; and his wife, Frances.

He is survived by his son, Vergal Aydelott and his wife, Gail of Hyshem, Mont .; his daughter, Dian Bauer and her husband, George of Encampment; and his daughter, Susan O’Bryan and her husband Richard, of Colome, S.D .; his adoptive daughter, Ellen Harnden; his six grandchildren and their spouses; and his nine great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, George Aydelott, of Cheyenne.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to any Volunteer Fire Department in Merl’s name.
