Temporary road closures:Brush Creek Hayden Ranger District announces road closures

Temporary road closures for hazard tree removal are, or will soon be, going into effect on Forest Roads 500, 496 and 100 in the Brush Creek-Hayden (BCH) Ranger District of the Medicine Bow National Forest. Forest visitors planning to use these roads should note that work will occur through the remainder of this summer and into the fall. To reduce impacts to forest visitors, however, work will be completed in segments and roads will be reopened during weekends from approximately 5 p.m. each Friday to 7 a.m. each Monday.

• Forest Road 500 (French Creek) –Hazard tree removal operations, which have been ongoing since early July, are nearing completion between the junctions with Forest Roads 206 and 225. The next segment between Forest Roads 225 and 210 is expected to begin by early September and will be followed by the final segment to the junction with Forest Road 500.1J.

• Forest Road 496 (Rim Road) – Work is anticipated to begin this week on the Rim Road, starting with the segment between the junction with Forest Road 496.1B (Box Canyon Road) and the East Fork Trailhead. The next segment of this road to be closed and treated will be determined at a later date.

• Forest Road 100 (North Brush Creek) – Beginning in early September, the North Brush Creek Road will be closed for treatment between the National Forest/private land boundary immediately south of Turpin Reservoir and the junction with the Cedar Pass Road (Forest Road 261). The timing for closure and treatment of the last segment between Forest Road 261 and Highway 130 is still to be determined.

The Forest Service regrets any inconvenience these or other closures may cause the public; however, roadside hazard tree removal is needed to ensure long-term public safety.

Visitors to this part of the Medicine Bow National Forest are encouraged to check the status of work areas by calling 307-326-5258 or stopping by the BCH Ranger District office at 2171 S. Highway 130 in Saratoga between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, this summer.
