Carbon County Project Team to hear conservation projects: WLCI project development team to discuss projects next week

The Wyoming Landscape Conservation Initiative’s (WLCI) Carbon County Local Project Development Team (LPDT) is meeting to discuss current, future or proposed conservation projects next week in Rawlins.

The meeting takes place at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 7, at the Bureau of Land Management’s Rawlins Field Office located at 1300 N. Third St. in Rawlins. Conservation-minded land owners, project proponents and the public are encouraged to attend the meeting, which includes updates on planned or existing projects, and discussions on potential new projects.

WLCI Public Information Officer Shelley Gregory said there is no set agenda, and all who are interested can present at or just attend the meeting.

“Local people and agencies can propose projects or give updates on projects that have been previously approved,” she said. “We won’t even know who will be presenting until the day of the meeting. The meetings are free-flowing with people giving something to update or present, and anyone can just show up to propose a project. We welcome all who come to give input.”

Gregory said the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) will also demonstrate the Integrated Assessment mapping tool available on http://www.wlci.gov, which allows project proponents to incorporate current and potential land management activities and support WLCI landscape level planning.

“The mapping tool on the site will provide data to help them on their project,” she said.

The USGS is also working with the LPDT to determine how to incorporate conservation priorities and accomplishments, identify suitable data, provide feedback on tool features and layout, and further train interested team members on using this tool to address specific conservation questions.

“Anyone interested in landscape-scale conservation is welcome to attend,” said WLCI Coordination Team Lead Michele Windsor. “This is a great opportunity to learn how to use one of the many conservation tools available through the WLCI, meet like-minded folks and learn more about what we do.”

For more information, or to propose a project please contact Windsor at 307-352-0227 or visit http://www.wlci.gov.
