2013 Saratoga Bullfest comes charging back: Iconic bullriding event in its 12th year of existence

Cowboys looking for wild bucking and throwing action can get their fill at the 2013 Saratoga Bullfest this weekend.

Cooperating sponsors for the bull riding event this year are the Carbon County Visitors’ Council and Saratoga Lions Club. KayCee Alameda, a three-year Bullfest producer and promoter along with her husband, Bo, said the 12th annual event includes an $8,000 added purse and 30 top bull riders from across the Rocky Mountain Region.

She said this year’s Bullfest includes competitors made up of top professionals and riders still in college or high school.

“We’ll have guys from the NFR (National Finals Rodeo) like Clayton Savage and Jason McClain, and a lot of the guys are from organizations like PBR (Professional Bullriders), CBR (Championship Bull Riding) and PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association),” KayCee said. “They’ll be riding for a split of $12,500, and $4,000 of that comes from the Carbon County Visitors’ Council while another $4,000 comes from private sponsors, and some of that comes from the riders fees, which goes back into the pot. There will be one long round, and the top eight from the long round go on to the short round.”

Alameda also thanked stock contractors Vernon Hare, Mark and Kelly Ward with L4 Livestock, Bill and Dona Larsen with Triple V Rodeo, and Hal and Barb Burns of the Burns Rodeo Company for supplying the bulls for Bullfest, and members of Beta Sigma Phi, a Saratoga Women’s Sorority, for agreeing to work concessions.

Bullfest starts at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Buck Springs Arena, and tickets are $10 at the gate or $7 for an advance purchase. Kids 12 and under are free.

Advance tickets are available at the Saratoga/Platte Valley Chamber of Commerce. For more information call KayCee or Bo Alameda at 307-326-7991.
