Awana kids, Big Brothers Big Sisters brighten up Deseret

At Deseret Health and Rehab, residents enjoyed many activities throughout the week. The Activity Department offers a wide variety of activities each week to meet the residents’ interests, as well as the physical, mental and psychological well-being of each resident.

Volunteers have been making our patio and garden look better. On Sunday morning, the Awana kids from the Saratoga Missionary Alliance Church planted flowers on our patio. They were accompanied by Tonya and Dean Bartholomew. Brian Manley, the husband of one of our nurses, has been weeding our garden.

Games throughout the week provided fun and laughter. On Sunday afternoon, five residents played Uno with Sonny Behonek winning. On Monday afternoon, five residents played Yahtzee with Dora Martin winning. On Wednesday afternoon, 13 residents played Bingo, and on Friday afternoon, 12 residents played Bingo. Frank Jereb and Jeanette Baker won Four Corners. Nadine Caleb and Phillip Proulx won Blackouts. On Friday, the Big Brothers/Big Sisters kids with Julienne Lembke came to help residents during Bingo. They passed out bookmarks that they had made. Our Bingo helpers were Gloria Rakness and Connie Hood.

Residents enjoyed watching movies during the week. Every evening several residents watched Turner Classic Movies. On Tuesday afternoon, four residents watched the DVD movie, “Dear John”.

On Sunday afternoon, four residents took Communion from Reverend Helen Young of the Saratoga Presbyterian Church.

On Sunday afternoon, Sharon Hughes of the Abundant Life Fellowship led church for six residents. Doris Davis assisted on the keyboard with traditional religious music.

On Monday morning, eight residents met for Resident Council, discussing concerns about living at the facility.

For Lunch Out at the Saratoga Senior Center, three residents had beef fajitas on Monday, and five residents had fish sandwiches on Friday.

On Tuesday morning, Pastor Tim Easterling offered Bible Study to five residents. His wife, Debbie, assisted on the guitar.

On Tuesday during supper, Teense Willford sang and played country western music for 24 residents.

On Wednesday morning, Janice Kerpan gave seven ladies beautiful hairdos, and Brenda Zeiger gave Nail Care to five residents.

We wish to thank Carol Lee and Doris Beckman for the donation to Bingo of small stuffed animals.
