EHS student displays art in Cheyenne

A work of art from Encampment High School incoming senior Jennifer Morgan is now on display at the “Artistic Discovery” art exhibit, held at the Barrett Building in Cheyenne through July.

The exhibit features work from high school students across Wyoming and is on display this month from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday, at the Barrett Building, 2301 Central Ave. in Cheyenne. Morgan’s piece of a print of a skeleton with a scarf and other small details was also one of 25 submissions, out of more than 4,000, that had potential for a Congressional Award after receiving the Artistic Discovery Award designation. Her piece of art received the honor at the High School Arts Symposium in Casper, which took place in April.

Each year, 25 pieces of two-dimensional work are chosen by outside jurors at the symposium, and from this body of work, one piece is sent to Washington D.C. to hang for one year in the hall between Congress and the offices of the Representatives. The winner was Alexandra Eisele of Big Horn High School, and the 24 Honorable Mentions, which include Morgan’s skeleton piece, are currently shown at the Artistic Discovery exhibit in the Barrett Building.

The symposium is a statewide annual event held in April and sponsored by the Wyoming Secondary Art Educators.

Each year, more than 70 secondary and middle schools bring artwork to Casper to be exhibited for two days, and the exhibit has numbered as many as 4,300 pieces in recent years.

In addition to receiving the Artistic Discovery Award for her skeleton piece, Morgan also won six blue ribbons with six submissions, more than any other student from Encampment High School, at the symposium.
