Sand Lake Road closed for tree removal

The Sand Lake Road (Forest Road 101) is currently closed for hazard tree removal between Highway 130 and the North Fork Campground on the Laramie Ranger District (LRD).

The closure period will run from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day until this Friday, and includes travel across the road by recreationists using the Little Laramie Trails. To accommodate public access during peak times, the road will be open on weekends and on the July 4th Holiday. Logging operations are anticipated to be completed by July 12.

During the closure period travelers should expect to encounter log trucks exiting and entering Highway 130. Visitors are also reminded to be aware of and avoid heavy equipment operating in the area. One should not enter areas which are posted as closed, as they are closed for public safety.

Beginning around July 1, a similar closure is expected to begin on the Spruce Gulch Road (Forest Road 530) between Fox Park and the Pelton Creek Road. Landowners within this affected area should contact Sara Alberts at the LRD to arrange for private land access.

Campers are also advised that the North Fork Campground is currently closed for ongoing log removal. Work is nearing completion, however, and campers can anticipate enjoying this popular facility by as early as mid July.

The increased truck traffic and temporary road closure are short-term necessities for long-term forest health and public safety. The U.S. Forest Service appreciates the patience of all visitors affected by the work.

LRD visitors are encouraged to check the latest status of roads and recreation sites by calling 307-745-2300, or stopping by the District Office at 2468 Jackson Street in Laramie from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
