Kyle Wessel chosen as Jamboree Ambassador

As a helper for the Woodchoppers Jamboree and Rodeo in prior years, recent Encampment High School graduate Kyle Wessel is excited to now serve as the festival’s Jamboree Ambassador during its 53rd year.

Wessel was grateful to be chosen out of all the students who applied for the Jamboree Ambassador Scholarship, which includes a $300 offering. Wessel said he’ll be helping out Friday and Saturday at the jamboree.

“I’ll be up in the box where they do the announcements during the rodeo, and I think I’ll have something to do with the parade this year,” he said. “I’ll find out about everything else I’ll be doing at a meeting tomorrow (Tuesday).”

In past years, Wessel participated in the parade, worked concessions and took money from those coming into the event. He said that his past volunteering, in addition to his mother, Gayle, helping with the Jamboree as a teen, helped him answer historical questions on the Jamboree for his scholarship application.

As a standout Encampment High School student, Wessel has also received other scholarships to add to his resume, and is excited to attend the University of Wyoming this fall.

“I also received the Hathaway Honors Scholarship, Vera Oldman Scholarship, Encampment Student Council Scholarship, E-Club Scholarship, Dorothy Wolford Scholarship, Ben Romios Scholarship, Saratoga Chapter 12 Ordinance of the Eastern Star Scholarship and Platte Valley Legacy Foundation Scholarship,” he said. “I’m going to UW at the end of August, and I’ll be majoring in mechanical engineering.”
