Health assessments available through wellness screenings

Wellness screenings coming to Saratoga, Encampment and Hanna next week offer nine different tests to assess the health of individuals participating, plus additional screenings for blood pressure, body fat analysis, vision and hearing.

The blood draws for these screenings will be from 7 to 9 a.m., Tuesday at Hanna Elementary School; from 6 to 10 a.m. April 17 and 18; in Saratoga at the Platte Valley Community Center; and from 6 to 10 a.m. April 19 and 20 at the Grand Encampment Opera House. Other screenings will be available concurrently and are free.

The wellness screenings are offered statewide by Wyoming Health Fairs/Wellness Health Fairs (WHF). The local screenings this year are being coordinated by Xi Beta Delta Sorority, assisted by the Valley Service Organization. Debbie Salisbury is lead organizer.

Screenings and the cost of each one offered are as follows: Blood chemistry profile, $30; Hemogram (CBC), $15; PSA for men, $30; Vitamin D, 25 Hydroxy, $35; Thyroid panel TC,T4, $25; Hemoglobin, $25; C-reactive protein (CRP), $25; Ferritin, $20; Blood type,$25.

Also available is the $10 ColoKit, a take home test to screen for the risk of colon cancer, and a health risk assessment (HA) online with the Mayo Clinic, for $25.

Participants are urged to fast for 12 hours before the blood draw, unless diabetic, and to drink plenty of water and take medications as usual.

Tests are to be paid for at the time they are taken. Wyoming Health Fairs do not bill insurance companies, but provide the proper information for the patient to receive reimbursement. This applies to Medicare recipients as well. Some companies provide employee vouchers for the screenings.

Results from the screenings will be available online at http://www.wyominghealthfairs.com to  and will be mailed to each person screened. Arrangements also can be made to have results faxed or emailed directly to physicians.
