Obituary: Gene E. Trowbridge

Gene E. Trowbridge passed away March 25, 2013, at Memorial Hospital of Carbon County, after a long battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). His wife Sudie was at his side.

A private family service was held March 28 at the Saratoga Valley Chapel, with Teense Willford officiating. John “J.B.” Baxter delivered the Eulogy.

Gene was born Nov. 6, 1943, in Cheyenne, to Gene and Reva Trowbridge.

Gene graduated from East High School in Cheyenne and attended the University of Wyoming on a football scholarship.

On May 27, 1970, Gene married Sudie Tysor, in Golden, Colo.

Gene and his wife moved to Saratoga in 1979. Gene was a dealer at Valley Oil Company for the past 25 years and recently retired because of his health.

Gene was a Ducks Unlimited volunteer and served as chairman. He was an active contributor to Ducks Unlimited Saratoga Chapter.

Gene was a member of the Saratoga Lions Club and volunteered for many years helping to ensure the Chariot Races and Calcutta auction were successful.

Gene served as treasurer in the Sons of the American Legion.

Gene was an avid golfer, participated in the Saratoga Men’s Golf Association for several years, and participated in the Valley 8-Ball Pool League and the local cribbage league.

Gene started the Umpire’s Association for the Saratoga Softball League and coached various women’s softball and youth softball teams for several years.

Gene enjoyed winter recreation in Wyoming, including snowmaching and downhill skiing.

He enjoyed scouting, researching and collecting marbles. He had an extensive collection.

Gene loved his “Peaceful Valley” as he called it and enjoyed hunting, fishing and photographing the beautiful scenery and wildlife. He also enjoyed guiding hunters for moose, elk and other wild game.

Gene loved to float the river in his trusty Jon boat, often telling his wife how to fish.

Gene is survived by his wife Sudie; sister, Ann Tollefson, of Casper; daughters Teri (Tom) Jackson, of Colorado Springs; Beth (Daniel) Craig, of Anchorage, Alaska; and son Tyler (Whitney) Trowbridge, of Louisville, Ky.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Nicole Burns and Christa Robinson, of Colorado Springs; Jackson and Colin Trowbridge, of Louisville; and great grandchild Nahayla Burns, of Colorado Springs.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents.

The Trowbridge family would like to continue Gene’s support of the local Carbon County 4-H Club, as he truly enjoyed supporting the local youth and the 4-H Club in the Valley.
