Club needs volunteer boost

A group that has been supporting student athletes for years is in need of some help itself.

The Saratoga High School Booster Club is short on people. “We have great financial support,” treasurer Jan Young said, “but we need bodies.”

The Booster Club has been short of volunteers for several years now, and with President Gayle Batemen and Young stepping down, the group is shrinking more.

“We only meet once a month and the meetings last around 45 minutes to an hour,” Young said.

The next meeting is April 9 at 6 p.m. in the Saratoga Middle High School multipurpose room.

The Booster Club provides several benefits to athletes, coaches, the speech team and band and choir, Young said.

They provide snacks and drinks for out-of-town competitions. Seniors receive flowers on parents night and a personalized towel for lettering seniors.

The Booster Club along with volunteers organize the hospitality rooms for tournaments and the Saratoga sponsored track meets.

Scholarships are given annually and this year two scholarships may be given.

Two members of the Booster Club, Heather Falk and Sarah Lincoln, plan to remain active. To learn more about the Booster Club, parents are encouraged to attend the April 9 meeting.
