The Saratoga Sun -

Residents observe Easter

At Deseret Health and Rehab, residents enjoyed many activities throughout the week. The Activity Department offers a wide variety of activities each week to meet the residents’ interests, as well as the physical, mental and psychological well-being of each resident.

Games throughout the week provided fun and laughter. On Sunday afternoon, four residents played Uno with Mae Harris winning. On Wednesday afternoon, 14 residents played Bingo, and on Friday afternoon, 14 residents played Bingo. Jeannie James and Sunny Behonek won Four Corners. Carol Higby, Nadine Caleb, Julia Priquet, and Truth Karstoft won Blackouts. Our Bingo helpers were Betty Dean, Joy Hamilton, Dauna Erickson, Lila Worden, and Gloria Rakness. On Friday morning, five residents played Blackjack with Frank Jereb winning.

Residents enjoyed watching movies during the week. Every evening, several residents watched Turner Classic Movies. On Sunday morning, two residents watched the VCR movie, “Outland”. On Tuesday afternoon, residents watched the VCR movie, “The Parent Trap”. On Saturday morning, residents watched the VCR movie, “The Pajama Game”.

On Sunday afternoon, Rev. Helen Young of the Saratoga Presbyterian Church led our church service, with Doris Davis assisting on the keyboard.

On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings, residents listened to News and History. On Friday after it, residents did Sittercise.

On Monday and Thursday mornings, residents listened to Brenda Zeiger, reading from Jeanette Walls’ The Glass Castle.

On Tuesday morning, Pastor Hughes of the Abundant Life Fellowship offered Bible Study to five residents.

On Wednesday morning, Janice Kerpan and Mildred Hennek gave seven ladies beautiful hairdos. Brenda Zeiger did Nail care for those residents as well.

On Thursday afternoon, six residents dyed Easter eggs in Arts and Crafts.

On Saturday afternoon, we had our annual Easter Egg Hunt for third graders and under. The kids received cookies after the hunt.

Jane Johnston and Jean Guy donated Easter Flower decorations for all of the tables in the dining room.

The Activity program relies on volunteers to enhance residents’ lives. If interested, please call 326-8212 and ask for the Activity Director, Tom Mansfield.
