Saratoga FCCLA brings home medals

Seven of 13 students in the Saratoga Family Community and Careers Leadership of America (FCCLA) Chapter returned with medals from the state convention, advisor Linda Fisher-Perue said in a press release.

Harley Klemola, who competed in the occupation division, earned a gold for her interior design.

Also in the occupation division were Micayla Crimmins, who earned a gold in recycle and redesign and Nick Smith, who won bronze for recycle and redesign.

In the consumer division, Rachelle Wilson won gold and Lacey Dale grabbed silver in interior design.

Rodridgo won gold in applied technology and Nikki Pacheco and Heather Stockwell earned a bronze in the same category.

The culinary team of Nick Smith, Thatcher Spiering and Darian Williams missed winning a medal, but placed fourth in the competition.

John Bauer earned a fifth place nod in individual baking. it was the first time the culinary team and Bauer had competed at the state level.

Fisher-Perue said the four gold medal winners will compete July 7 through 11 in Nashville at the national competition.

The students participated in state officer projects, and brought 26 boxes of food and supplies to the Platte Valley Food Bank from Feed the Children.

The students also donated $100 worth of dimes to the March of Dimes participated in “Rope of Hope”, and Survival Night, sang in the FCCLA State Choir and attended a book-signing by keynote speaker Richard Paul Evans.

Fisher-Perue, JoAnn Capellan and Kaelin Watson judged events while the students competed.

Fisher-Perue said this saved the Saratoga FCCLA $150 in registration feeds.

“It was a very busy and great convention and all members and advisors were happy to have had the opportunity to participate,” Fisher-Perue said.
