Nail and hair care a favorite

At Deseret Health and Rehab, residents enjoy many activities. The Activity Department offers a wide variety of activities each week to meet the residents’ interests, as well as the physical, mental and psychological well-being of each resident.

It has often been said that the two most important activities at the facility are Hair Care and Nail Care. On Wednesday mornings, resident line up outside the Activity room for these activities. Janice Kerpan and Mildred Hennek gave beautiful hairdos to nine ladies. Brenda Zeiger did the nails of those nine ladies.

Games throughout the week provided fun and laughter. On Wednesday afternoon, 12 residents played Bingo, and on Friday afternoon, 11 residents played Bingo. Nadine Caleb, Carol Higby, and Mae Harris won Four Corners. Carol Higby and Mae Harris won Blackouts. Our Bingo helpers were Betty Dean, Lila Worden, Joy Hamilton, Gloria Rakness, and Dawna Erickson. On Saturday afternoon, six residents played Blackjack with Jeanette Baker winning.

On Sunday afternoon, Pastor Smith of the Platte Valley Christian Center led our church service with Doris Davis assisting on the keyboard.

On Monday morning, seven residents attended Resident Council under the able leadership of President Randy Cross, discussing concerns about living at the facility.

On Monday morning, six residents went shopping at the Family Dollar.

On Tuesday morning, Pastor Easterling offered Bible Study with his wife, Debbie, on the guitar.

On Tuesday and Thursday mornings, residents listened to Brenda Zeiger, reading from Debbie Macomber’s “Summer on Blossom Street”.

For Lunch Out at the Saratoga Senior Center, four residents had corned beef and cabbage on Friday. We celebrated the birthday of Dora Martin among others.

On Saturday morning, residents watched the VCR movie, The Pink Panther.

On Saturday afternoon, 23 residents, visitors, and staff enjoyed the weekly Ice Cream Social.

Evening activities included Turner Classic Movies on Friday, and Saturday.
