2014 Conservation Stamp subject is the ruffed grouse

Local artists have an opportunity to enter the annual Conservation Stamp Art Contest.

All entries need to be postmarked or received at the Wyoming Game and Fish head office in Cheyenne no later than March 15.

The 2014 subject for the Conservation Stamp is the ruffed grouse (Bonasa umbellus).

The ruffed grouse is common in the western forests of Wyoming and a small population exists in the Black Hills National Forest. There are two color phases to a ruffed grouse, red and grey. Artists are reminded that it is the gray phase found in Wyoming.

In addition to having the winning art work displayed on more than 100,000 Conservation Stamps in 2014, the winning artist will receive a $3,500 cash award. Second place will win $1,500 and third place will win $ 750.

Visit wgfd.wyo.gov and go to “Contests and Awards” for more information about the contest.

Rules and entry forms will also be mailed to artists upon request.
