Lady Tigers gain experience in road losses

After a two-week break, the Encampment Lady Tigers (1-10) (0-3) were back on the court Friday and Saturday for two conference match-ups against Cokeville (11-1) (4-0) and Farson-Eden (6-6) (2-2).

The Tigers dropped the first of the two matches to Cokeville who are undefeated in conference play, and have only lost one game on the season. Cokeville is a tough team and The Lady Tigers had some trouble Friday night.

“Cokeville is by far the most aggressive team we have played this year,”Coach Amy Clay wrote in an email. “I am proud of my team for keeping their composure and fighting to the final buzzer.”

Cassidy Little led her team scoring 12 points against Cokeville. She was followed up by Jennifer Morgan with 7, and Alyssa Barkhurst with 6 points of her own. Morgan was 100 percent from the line hitting the three free throws she attempted and Barkhurst assisted her teammates three times on the night.

Randa Sorensen also contributed 2 points to the offense in the 27-61 loss to Cokeville.

“We had a good week of practice, so I’m a little disappointed we didn’t play with more intensity,” Clay said. “We will regroup and get that level of play back on our side.”

The next night the Lady Tigers played hard against Farson but at the final buzzer, Farson had edged out Encampment 28-18.

“This is a game we should have won,” Clay wrote. “We had trouble executing on offense and our defense was not as aggressive as it was against Cokeville.”

Jennifer Morgan and Cassidy Little both scored 8 points against Farson/Eden and were backed by Alyssa Barkhurst with 2 points. Little also had 11 rebounds on Saturday.

“We are halfway through the season now and we need to step it up,” Clay said. “We have seen everyone except Little Snake River and there are no surprises now. Everyone has to take ownership and do their part, but I feel like we are gaining.”

The Lady Tigers played North Park Tuesday night, but the results were not available at press time.

Up next for the Tigers will be a home game against Rock River on Friday at 4 p.m. The Lady Tigers will also host the Laramie Sophomore team on Saturday at noon.
