Speech season starts with wins

The Carbon County School District No. 2 Speech Team began their season in December with the novice meet in Cheyenne Dec. 1.

Taylor Russell and Jacob Dickinson, both of Encampment, earned first place in their humor round in duets. Both are members or novice members of the speech team.

On Dec. 7, the speech team travelled to Green River and returned with the 1A-2A Sweepstake Trophy.

Jan. 4 and 5, the speech team competed at the Cheyenne Central Speech Tournament.

Saratoga High School Senior, Amber Adams, received a first place trophy in poetry with “Making Sarah Cry”.

The duet team of Saratoga’s Colton Woolfolk and Geoff Page made it into the final round with their duet.

Encampment’s Kaylyn Wessel and Becca Treat made it into semi-finals with their duet.

Wessel also competed in the semi-final round in drama.

Aleck Freeman, of Hanna-Elk Mountain-Medicine Bow, entered the semi-final rounds in the poetry category.

Hanna-Elk Mountain-Medicine Bow English teacher Brenda Ostendorf coaches the team with Gayle Wessel and Greg Bush as assistant coaches. The speech team has students from HEM, Saratoga and Encampment.
