Schutte accepted to All-State Choir

Saratoga High School freshman Sierra Schutte is following in her brother’s footsteps by being accepted into Wyoming’s All-State Choir.

Sierra said she loves to sing and last year she took a music class, but she also practice’s a lot at home.

She is enrolled in choir at Saratoga High School this year.

“Singing is one of my passions,” Schutte said.

Her brother, Ryan Schutte, was accepted into all-state choir all four years of his high school career, and Sierra hopes to follow his lead.

Ryan is in college now, so the only time they sing together is when they are riding around in his truck.

Schutte said she first became interested in music at a very young age when she would hear a song and it would get stuck in her head.

“I would practice it over and over again,” Schutte said.

Getting advice from her older brother helped her prepare for her audition with All-State Choir.

“Ryan told me to memorize the excerpts, practice and tryout for the same part next year,” Schutte said.

Schutte is a Soprano II at All-State, which is between a Soprano I and Alto I.

Schutte’s goal is to continue the family tradition and try out for acceptance to All-State Choir all four years of her high school career.

The last pair of siblings to accomplish that was Emily Larscheid and her brother, Ryan, who graduated in 2008.

The All-State Choir will meet Jan. 20-22 and will practice for two days before performing.

Sierra said there is a lot of gospel music and one song called “The Drinking Gourd”, an American folksong reportedly used by Underground Railroad operatives who helped slaves flee from the south.

This year, the All-State Choir meets in Gillette.

“It will be pretty exciting,” Schutte said.

Schutte appreciates the help she received from her choir director, Robby Follum.

“He helped me so much in a short amount of time,” Schutte said.
