Garland Bartlett Sr.

Carbon County native and longtime rancher, Garland Bartlett (Sr.) passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012 at Valley View Care and Rehab Center in Saratoga at the age of 93.

Garland was born on Aug. 19, 1919, in Rawlins to Garland P. Bartlett and Pearl Ellen Frisby. He married Elsie B. Williams, of Encampment, on May 29, 1942, in Encampment. They subsequently had 5 children, 4 of whom are still living.

In 1921, the Bartlett family moved from the Rawlins area to the Severson Ranch on Jack Creek where they lived for 15 years. In 1936, the family purchased the Hennesy place on Methodist Creek and other properties on upper North Spring Creek. After the death of Garland’s father, Garland became known as Garland Sr., and the family stayed on the ranch until 1996 when he moved to Saratoga where he remained until his passing.

During his lifetime, not only did he ranch, he worked at construction, and at the local sawmill.

He was preceded in death by his wife Elsie of 50 years, one daughter Ellen Bartlett Guinn, his parents, and one grandson, V.J. Allred. Survivors include sons Garland Jr. (Sue) and David, daughters Marilyn (Bill) Schroeder, Evelyn (Verl) Allred, 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, one brother Bill Bartlett (Claudia), and one sister, Betty Eaton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Services for Garland are slated for 11 a.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS Church) at 950 Hugus Ave., in Saratoga, with Bishop Cade Powell conducting.

Carbon County Funeral Home is assisting the family.
