Lady Panthers pick up two in county tourney

The Saratoga Lady Panthers got a beating from the Cokeville Panthers Friday night, but they rallied to notch two wins Saturday against Hanna-Elk Mountain-Medicine Bow (HEM) and Encampment.
Senior Taylor Smith led the Panthers with 12 points, freshman Justine Fourman tallied 8 points and junior Shelby McGuire scored 7 points against Cokeville, but it wasn’t enough as the Panthers fell to Cokeville 39-67.

Encampment men sweep Carbon County tourney

This weekend the Encampment Tigers started off their season with a 3-0 record overall beating Dubois, Wright and Saratoga.
Friday night, in a non-league match, the Encampment Tigers soundly beat Dubois (1-2) 59 to 34.
Gaven Pantle racked up 18 points, had nine assists and four steals. Kyle Wessel had 14 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks. Waddie Love tallied 12 points and nine rebounds. Harold Jackson swiped four steals.

Freshmen lead the way

Freshman Thatcher Spiering led Saratoga’s youngest wrestlers to some success at the Evanston Invitational over the weekend, earning an individual championship out of the gate and boosting the freshmen to a fifth place finish.
“It was a good start, it may not look it for how many placed at varsity, but I thought we did some good things,” head coach Jared Mason said. “We weren’t at the caliber of those 4A schools we ran into.”

Two seniors lead raw wrestling squad into new season

Lionzo Escobedo is one of just two seniors on Saratoga’s wrestling squad, and the only returning state placer, so head coach Jared Mason is going to lean heavily on him for leadership.
“Lionzo steps in and fills that role as a natural leader, there isn’t a kid that works harder than him,” Mason said. “He’s willing to help show the younger kids ... he’s not just a senior saying I’m going to thump on you.”

Saratoga transitions to small ball, coach calls for high-volume shooting

Saratoga men’s basketball is trading in their set offense geared toward a short bench and big post players for a shiny, new game plan that relies on quickness and chemistry.

Defense, size key for Encampment hoopsters

Top-ranked defense and three big men can once again put them in regionals and, hopefully, propel them past the likes of 1A Southwest conference foes Little Snake River and Cokeville.

Guard play key to Lady Panthers’ season

With three of six seniors back on the Saratoga women’s basketball team for their final season, the Lady Panthers have the experience, chemistry and individual talent now for a deep run into the regional tournament - if they can put it all together.
