Wrestlers show strength at Soroco invitational

With senior wrestlers at home taking ACTs, it was up to younger Saratoga grapplers to make a statement Dec. 8 at the Soroco Invitational, in Oak Creek, Colo.
Five Saratoga wrestlers placed in four different weight classes at the tournaments’ conclusion.
In the 106-weight class, Bradley Bifano and Daynon Mowry placed first and third respectively.

Lady Panthers lose catfight

The Lady Panthers caught fire in the fourth quarter and almost put away a game they trailed all afternoon Saturday. They ended up five points short of a win against the North Park Wildcats as the clock ran out on their rally.
“The girls all played very hard but we definitely didn’t play up to our abilities,” head coach Matt Love said.

Tigers roll through Rock River; squeak by North Park

The Encampment Tigers men’s basketball team came off of last week with two wins and will roll into the upcoming scheduled games with a 5-0 record. The Tigers beat Rock River and North Park, both games on the road.
“We got two good wins under our belt,” coach Dan Kraft said. “We try to get better all the time.”

Panthers send Wildcats scampering

The Saratoga men’s varsity basketball team evened their record to two and two with a 50 to 37 win at home this past weekend. The North Park Wildcats met the Panther team Saturday in a game that Saratoga dominated from the tip.

With a new offense in place, the Saratoga Panthers picked up one win during the Carbon County Classic Tournament this weekend.
The Panthers lost to Cokeville 48-61.
Saratoga held a one-point lead over Cokeville after the first quarter but Cokeville dominated the rest of the way after a second-quarter burst.
Senior Ben Gates led the Panthers with 16 points and five defensive rebounds.

Lady Panthers pick up two in county tourney

The Saratoga Lady Panthers got a beating from the Cokeville Panthers Friday night, but they rallied to notch two wins Saturday against Hanna-Elk Mountain-Medicine Bow (HEM) and Encampment.
Senior Taylor Smith led the Panthers with 12 points, freshman Justine Fourman tallied 8 points and junior Shelby McGuire scored 7 points against Cokeville, but it wasn’t enough as the Panthers fell to Cokeville 39-67.
