Lady Tigers skewered by Longhorns

After a massive 56-28 win over Saratoga earlier this month, Encampment’s Lady Tigers fell with a 26-36 loss against Rock River’s Lady Longhorns last Friday.
The defeat from Rock River brought Encampment to a varsity non-conference record of 3-2. During the game, Cassidy Little scored 10 points and snagged 10 rebounds, Alyssa Barkhurst scored eight points, Konnar Knotwell had six points on the board and Jenny Morgan sank two points.

Panthers suffer first loss of the season to Hornets

The Saratoga varsity Panthers suffered their first loss of the 2013-14 season, with a close 68-74 takedown from the Pine Bluffs Hornets.
The Saturday game was not only the Panthers' first losing one out of seven season games played so far, it was also their first conference matchup of the season. The 2013-14 Panther record now stands at 6-1 (non-conference) and 0-1 (conference).

Young Tigers earn second at middle school tourney

The younger crop of Encampment boys' basketball players finished their season strong Saturday, earning a respectable second place at the Carbon County Junior High Basketball Tournament.
The Tigers, playing on their home court, pulled in second after suffering a championship game loss to the Little Snake River Rattlers. The Saratoga A Team secured third place in the tourney after beating Hanna-Elk Mountain-Medicine Bow.

Correction

On page 5 of the Winter Sports Preview in the Dec. 11 issue of the Saratoga Sun, it was reported Darion Vacher, of the Encampment boys’ basketball team, scored four points in the Saratoga vs. HEM game. It was actually Darian Williams, of the Saratoga boys’ basketball team, who scored the four points. The Saratoga Sun apologizes for this error.

Two matmen place first at Soroco Invite

Two Saratoga wrestlers achieved first-place rankings at the Soroco Invitational Saturday.  
Six of the eight competing Panthers placed at the Oak Creek, Colo. event, where Hunter Mason (132) and Jacob Wells (285) received first place in their respective divisions.

The Encampment Lady Tigers, who won only one game last year, proved they could be heading for a major turnaround season after a 56-28 win over Saratoga.

Panthers win by 20 in Tiger face-off

The Saratoga boys' basketball team was an unstoppable scoring machine Friday, slamming the local rival, Encampment Tigers, with a score of 80-60.
Playing on their home turf Friday evening, the Panthers (5-0) maintained a wide lead for much of the game, scoring high with 24-11 at the end of the first quarter, and 64-40 at the end of the third. The Panthers also won their Saturday game against North Park, Colo., with 54-47.
